Pentecost – Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday church! 🎉
Today is Pentecost – the day spoken of by Christ when He told us He was going back to heaven but He was sending the Holy Spirit to be with us until He came back for us (John 14:15-25).
Acts records what happened – that, on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples and they began speaking in different tongues (languages).
I am reminded of the story of the tower of Babel where God broke everyone up and scrambled their languages. Now, that the good news of the gospel should be preached to all the world, the Holy Spirit touched the disciples to allow them to speak in the various languages of the world.
Christ’s mission in the world had come to an end and the disciples mission was beginning.
As Christ taught, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” — Matthew 28:18-20.
Pentecost marks the birthday of the church. The Holy Spirit came upon the disciples and they began ministering, making disciples of all nations, baptizing in the name of Father, Son and Holy Spirit and teaching them to observe all Christ had commanded.
This is the purpose of the church.
To worship God, to share the good news of the gospel, to make disciples of all nations, baptize them and teach them to observe all Christ had commanded until Christ returns.
Happy Pentecost, happy blessed birthday!🎉
