First Christians

Pentecost is coming. Pentecost is when the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples and, well, what we know today as the “church”, was born.

Before it was the church, though, it was commonly referred to as “the Way”. More on that later.

In any case, the English word, “Christian”, comes from the Greek word, “Cristianoj” (khris-tee-an-os’) which simply means “follower of Christ”.

The first place Christian appears in scripture is Acts 11:26 where the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
