Entertaining Strangers

One of my favorite TV shows has always been, “Little House on the Prairie”.
I’ve always loved the perceived simpleness of the 1800s and, well, that Laura Ingalls Wilder based her Little House books in Minnesota – Walnut Grove to be a bit more exact. Land of 10,000 beaches – um, okay, 10,000 lakes – and land where many of my ancestors immigrated to and where my own parents were born.
But, that’s another story for another time.
In 1982, I flew out to visit my dad in California.
While I was out there, I caught the episode of Little House on the Prairie where Laura met an angel.
Afterward, I had conversation with my dad who reminded me of the passage in Hebrews 13:2,

Do not forget to entertain strangers for, by so doing, some have entertained angels“.

That night, when I went to bed, I was so inspired by the show and my conversation with my dad, I prayed the Lord would allow me to meet an angel – and that He would let me know it was an angel.
On my return trip, to New England, the air traffic controllers had gone on strike, so the airlines were doing their best to fill the planes with passengers. And, I recall I always – always – had to have a window seat because I loved looking out the window. But, this one time was a “no go” for a window seat.
I was bummed.
Instead, I had an aisle seat.
As we taxied and took off, I noticed the cabin was very bright – lots of sparkling white. Which I thought was a bit unusual but nothing to write home about. And, there was a gentleman in my window seat – um, okay, not my window seat but it should have been. Anyway, we struck up a conversation and I learned he owned a religious broadcasting station and had written 12 or 13 books on religion.
My kind of guy. 😂
We had a delightful conversation – and, most certainly, one that likely wouldn’t have happened if I had sat in the window seat.
God knew what He was doing.
As we were landing, I got his information and said I’d look him up when I got home.
I remember, as I walked up the aisle towards the front door, I looked back to wave and he was looking at me – we waved, and I haven’t seen him since.
When I got home, I went down to our local library to look him up.
Since that time, in 1982, I’ve not been able to find him anywhere.
Was he an angel?
Don’t know.
However, Hebrews teaches us angels can be among us.
Blessings.
