You Are the Light of the World

Among many others, the internationally renowned Libera boys choir from South London, U.K., is an amazingly beautiful example of the “light of the world” that Christ speaks of in this piece from His Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:14-16). “… Nor do they light a candle and put it under a basket [some translations use ‘bushel’] but on a lampstand …” where it can give light to everyone in the room.

Jesus continues, “Let your light so shine before men [that is, before others] that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven”.

Let your light shine. Let them see your good works. Give glory to God for the good works of others.

Libera has, and continues, to tour the world – bringing their light and their music (good works) where ever they go. And, blessing so many, with their light, along the way. I am one who has been blessed by their music and I give glory to, and thank, God for them all the time.

Boy Scouts is another group that lets their light shine before others.

Since their inception in the early 1900s, scouts have performed many, many, thousands of hours of community service across the country and around the world. They have also saved many lives and helped many in one way or another along the way.

They have committed to doing their duty to God, and country, and self.

Kind of sounds like the two greatest commandments – to love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and soul. And, to love your neighbor as you love yourself.

There are many others who let their light shine too.

How about you?
Are you letting your light shine? In the darkness?
For others to see?
To experience? To be inspired by? Or to hear?
And, on the flip side, have you given thanks for the light you have seen shining in the world? Among others?

You are the light of the world. Let your light shine.

Blessings.
