My Christmas Story: Miracle at the Mall – Pt.3
“How are we going to pay for the hotel?”, I asked anxiously, “And, the rental car? And …”
It was two weeks before departure and I was in panic mode.
Clearly God had answered our prayer and He had given us the green light to go on this trip to Minnesota, in 2012. And, we went ahead and purchased the airfare. So, at the very least, we were flying from Hartford to Minneapolis. If nothing else, as a last resort, perhaps we could stay in the airport for that week.
However, that wouldn’t have been much fun.
So, I was sitting at my computer, in the middle of November, trying to figure out how to rent a car, pay for lodging and what ever other travel necessities we needed. And, that’s when I heard God speak to me, in my gut, like never before.
He asked, “Are you more concerned with how you are going to pay for this trip? Or, doing what I want you to do?”. He got me.
I didn’t know how to answer. If I answered I wanted to do what He wanted me to do, where was the money going to come from? If I answered I was more concerned with how I was going to pay for the trip, where was my faith? God gave us the green light to go, was He not going to help us by providing the resources we needed? I had to put my faith in Him. I had to trust in Him.
He also mentioned, two weeks before our trip, “By the way, while you are in Minnesota, something very special is going to happen. I cannot tell you what it is but you’ll know when it happens”.
Don’t you hate that? Don’t you just hate having someone tell you something special is going to happen but they cannot, or will not, tell you what it is?
Two weeks later, something special did happen and that’s what this Christmas Story is all about.
Amazingly, I knew two weeks before our trip something – something – was going to happen. I just didn’t know what. Or, when. Or, how. Or, who – I had no details.
I had to trust God.
We finished planning our trip, had thanksgiving in New England and a week later, on November 29th, we boarded the Minneapolis bound airplane in Hartford – and, mom and I were on our way for a most amazing and memorable trip home, to Minnesota.
That following Sunday, is when it happened … (Stay tuned for Pt. 4).
