Where to From Here?
Okay, then. Now what?
Where do we go from here?
Sometimes, I imagine the disciples sitting in the upper room, after Christ’s crucifixion, asking the same question.
This Man who had called them to follow Him, this Man whom they followed, whom they believed in, this Man whom they may have believed was going to lead them into a winning rebellion against the Roman authorities was now dead. And, buried in a borrowed tomb. And, they were in hiding out of fear they would be next. What do they do now?
Where do they go? What do they, or who do they, take with them? Who’s on their side? Who can they trust?
So many questions and then, there’s a knock on the door.
They cringe in fear that it’s the Romans who have come, and found them in hiding. Yet, when the door is opened, imagine the stunned look on the disciples’ faces as the now risen Christ stands before them – alive, as alive can be!
Christ’s resurrection changed the “rules”.
No longer do we simply die, and are laid in a tomb.
No longer does death have a grip on us.
As scripture teaches us, as Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 15, “O death where is thy sting, O grave where is thy victory?”.
Because of Christ’s resurrection, He won the battle.
And, when we accept and receive Him into our lives, we’re winners too. In fact, on that day when He was resurrected, we all became potential winners – and can look forward to eternal life with Him. “For God so loved the world He gave His Son so whoever believes shall not perish but have eternal life“. –John 3:16.
So, the question, where do we go from here?
Some candidates won, some lost. Some hearts are rejoicing this day, some are breaking and, yes, some are angry.
Where-ever your heart is at, know this: when everyone thought Christ was dead and that was the end of it, it was only the beginning. Life will go on. This journey through this world is only temporary – I’m reminded of one of my favorite songs, “Wayfaring Stranger”.
“I’m just a poor wayfaring stranger
Wayfaring Stranger
Traveling through this world below
There’s no sickness, no toil or danger
In that bright land to which I go…“
This is only our temporary home. The day is coming when we will see Christ returning in all His glory.
And, it won’t matter who won the Governorship, or the senate seat. It won’t matter what ballot question passed and which one didn’t. All those things will be done away with. As John wrote, ” And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. ” –Revelation 21:4
What do we do now? We carry on.
We carry on with life, doing the best we can with that which we have – all the while knowing, God is still in control. And, He knows our pains, our sorrows and our joys.
We focus on Jesus.
